In an age defined by disconnection—between body and mind, self and nature, tradition and modernity—Sikh spirituality offers a powerful path toward inner coherence and embodied wholeness. This 13-week online course invites learners from diverse backgrounds to explore Sikh spiritual practice through the poetic, musical, and elemental wisdom of Gurbani.

Sikhi originated in Punjab, South Asia during the second half of the 15th century. Guru Nanak Sahib, the founder of Sikhi, offered a worldview that included a new cosmology, philosophy and religious praxis. The Sikh worldview effectively questioned the previous Hindu and Semitic ideas of the divine and the temporal. The individuals who celebrated the new idea of the human emerged as a community, first known as sangat and then Khalsa. That community managed to survive through multiple cycles of genocide and displacement. This course is an attempt to understand Sikhi and the idea of community that evolved out of Sikhi.

ਖ਼ਾਲਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਵੀਹਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਉਭਾਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਜਮਹੂਰੀ ਮੋਰਚੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਹਥਿਆਰਬੰਦ ਬਗ਼ਾਵਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਦਲ ਗਈ। ਇਹ ਲਹਿਰ ਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਤੇਜ਼ੀ ਨਾਲ਼ ਬਹੁਤ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ ’ਤੇ ਫ਼ੈਲਾਅ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਸ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਹੋਈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਜੁਆਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮੋੜਵੀਂ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਵੀ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈ। ਇਸ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੌਜੁਆਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਡੇਰੇ ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲ ਖਿੱਚ ਲਿਆ। ਇਸ ਖਿੱਚ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ‘ਤੇ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਹੋਏ ਆਧੁਨਿਕਵਾਦੀ, ਮਾਰਕਸਵਾਦੀ, ਅਤੇ ਸੈਕੂਲਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਵਾਦੀ ਬਿਰਤਾਂਤ ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਗੁਆ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਸਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਧਰਤੀ ‘ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਵਾਪਸੀ ਹੋਈ। ਖ਼ਾਲਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲ਼ੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਨੌਜੁਆਨ ਇਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਨਾਲ਼ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਬੱਧਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਲਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ਼ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਨੌਜੁਆਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੋਂਦ, ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ, ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਰੋਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਲ਼ ਵਾਚਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਕੀ ਕੁਝ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਹ ੧੩ ਹਫ਼ਤਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਰਸ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰ ਬੈਠਕ ੩ ਘੰਟੇ ਦੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਇਸ ਕੋਰਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਖ਼ਾਲਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੀ ਵਿਸਥਾਰਿਤ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਲਹਿਰ ਨਾਲ਼ ਜੁੜੇ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਸੁਆਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਖ਼ਾਤਿਬ ਹੋਵਾਂਗੇ। ਕੋਰਸ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਵਾਲ਼ੀ ਸਮੱਗਰੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।

Contemporary culture is deeply influenced by the principles of psychoanalysis. Consciously or unconsciously, our lives are profoundly affected by the psychoanalytic theories introduced by Sigmund Freud over a century ago. Freud's division of the human mind into the Id, Ego, and Superego has shaped our understanding of the self, while concepts such as dream interpretation, the Oedipus complex, polymorphous perversity, and the death drive have influenced both individual psyches and broader cultural patterns. The impact of psychoanalysis on modern culture is so pervasive that it is virtually impossible to understand the psychic complexities of modern life without a firm grasp of its fundamentals. This presents a unique challenge for those who do not share the European cultural heritage from which psychoanalysis emerged. As Punjabis and Sikhs, how do we engage with the tenets of psychoanalysis? How has it shaped our understanding of culture, the libidinal economy of social relations, and the structure of the human mind? Are we immune to its influence? How might we understand and interpret Punjabi pop culture through a psychoanalytic lens? Did colonialism fundamentally alter our psychic structures? These are questions rarely addressed by Punjabi scholars, writers, and public intellectuals. This course aims to address this gap. It will serve a dual purpose: (a) to introduce the foundational concepts of psychoanalysis to students with no prior background in psychology or psychoanalysis, and (b) to critically examine the ways in which psychoanalysis has influenced Punjabi culture, as well as explore aspects of our culture that may resist its influence. Does Punjabi culture offer an alternative model of the human psyche? If so, what are its defining features? What role does Sikhi play in the formation of this alternative model? These are some of the central questions that will be explored throughout the course.

ਖ਼ਾਲਿਸਤਾਨ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਆਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ‘ਤੇ ਮੁਲਕ ਮੰਗਣ ਦਾ ਹੱਕ ਹੈ? ਸਿੱਖ ਮਹਿਜ਼ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਹਨ ਜਾਂ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਕੌਮ? ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਪੰਥ? ਜੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਕੌਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਕੌਮ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹਨ, ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ? ਜੇ ਸਿੱਖ, ਹਿੰਦੂ, ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਪਛਾਣ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਅਤ ਨਾਲ਼ ਕੀ ਨਾਤਾ ਹੈ? ਕੀ ਵਜ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਤੋਂ ਦੂਰ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ?  ਸਿੱਖ ਪਛਾਣ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੀ ਬੁਨਿਆਦਾਂ ਹਨ? ਜੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਸਿੱਖ ਪਛਾਣ ਦੀ ਬੁਨਿਆਦ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪੱਛਮੀ, ਹਿੰਦੂ, ਅਤੇ ਇਸਲਾਮੀ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕੀ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਹੈ? ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਕੌਮ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਜੜ੍ਹ ਬਸਤੀਵਾਦੀ ਆਧੁਨਿਕਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੈ? ਕੀ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੱਕ ਹੈ? ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਦਾਅਵੇ ਦਾ ਆਧਾਰ ਕੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਦੇਣ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦੇ ਭਲੇ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਲ਼ ਕੀ ਸਬੰਧ ਹੈ? ਇਸ ਕੋਰਸ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਖ਼ਾਲਿਸਤਾਨ ਦੇ ਆਸ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਅਧਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਪੱਖੀ ਪੜਚੋਲ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ। ਇਹ ਕੋਰਸ ਨੇਸ਼ਨ-ਸਟੇਟ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਫ਼ਲਸਫ਼ਾਨਾ ਬੁਨਿਆਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਲੋਚਨਾਤਮਿਕ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਚਰਚਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਉਪਰਾਲਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। 

ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਹਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਹਿਬੂਬ ਦੀ ਸਹਿਜੇ ਰਚਿਓ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ਲਸਫ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਮੁਹਾਵਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਗਈ ਫ਼ਲਸਫ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਹੈ। ਮਹਿਬੂਬ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਫ਼ਲਸਫ਼ੇ ਨਾਲ਼ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਅਮਲ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਅਮਲ ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਉਪਰਾਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।

ਕਵਿਤਾ ਲਿਖਣਾ ਵਿਸਮਾਦੀ ਅਮਲ ਹੈ। ਕਵਿਤਾ ਲਿਖਣ ਵੇਲ਼ੇ ਲੋਕ ਮਹਿਜ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ, ਸਗੋਂ ਉਹ ਟੋਂਹਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੀ ਕੁਝ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ। ਕਵਿਤਾ ਸੰਜੋਗ-ਵਿਜੋਗ, ਪ੍ਰੇਮ, ਦੁੱਖ, ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ। ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਹਿਣ ਨਾਲ਼ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ਼ ਨਾਤਾ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਕਾਵਿ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਦੇ ਪਲ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਦੀ ਸਹੀ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਗੀ ਢੁਕਵੇਂ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਬਗ਼ੈਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੂਖਮਤਾਈਆਂ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਸਰੋਦ ਨਾਲ਼ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਨਾਤਾ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਰੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਹਜ ਨਾਲ਼ ਇੱਕਸੁਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਆਬਾਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ। ਕਵਿਤਾ ਲਿਖਣ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਣੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ।

Does Sikhi constitute a different world civilization? Do Sikhs have a solid ideological and historical foundation for building a unique state system? What would Sikh strategy look like? What are the relations between Sikhi and modernity, postmodernity, and democracy? What is the Sikh theory of warfare? What would a Sikh economy look like? What are the Sikh traditions of Gurmata and Sarbat Khalsa? What would a Sikh state look like? These are some crucial questions we will deal with in this course. Sikhi is a unique (naira) way of life. It contains the philosophical and ideological foundations of an alternative socio-political and economic system. However, this system has never been fully articulated. Most Sikh scholars who have written about these issues have done so only as passing remarks. It is tough to find sustained academic reflections on these questions.

ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਹਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਹਿਬੂਬ ਦੀ ਸਹਿਜੇ ਰਚਿਓ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਫ਼ਲਸਫ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਮੁਹਾਵਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖੀ ਗਈ ਫ਼ਲਸਫ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਹੈ। ਮਹਿਬੂਬ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਫ਼ਲਸਫ਼ੇ ਨਾਲ਼ ਸੰਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਅਮਲ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਅਮਲ ਦੇ ਸੰਦਰਭ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਉਪਰਾਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। 

ਅੱਜ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਸਨਾਤਨਵਾਦ ਭਖਵਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਵੇਦਿਕ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ਼-ਨਾਲ਼ ਉਨ੍ਹੀਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੱਲੀ ਸਨਾਤਨ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣਾ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ। ਸਨਾਤਨ ਧਰਮ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਆਰੰਭ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੋ ਸਮਾਜ, ਆਰੀਆ ਸਮਾਜ, ਥੀਓਸੋਫ਼ੀਕਲ ਸੋਸਾਇਟੀ, ਦੇਵ ਸਮਾਜ, ਸਨਾਤਨ ਧਰਮ ਸਭਾ, ਰਾਧਾਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋਸਾਇਟੀ, ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮਹਾਂਸਭਾ, ਅਤੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸਵੈਮਸੇਵਕ ਸੰਘ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁਖਤਾ ਸਮਝ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬਸਤੀਵਾਦ, ਮਸੀਹੀਅਤ, ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਵਾਦ ਦੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਮਝ ਹੋਣੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ। ਵੀਹਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਦੇ ਮਗਰਲੇ ਅੱਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸਵੈਮਸੇਵਕ ਸੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਧਾਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਤਿਸੰਗ ਸਨਾਤਨਵਾਦ ਦੀਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸੰਚਾਲਕ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇੱਕੀਵੀਂ ਸਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਹੰਗ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਵੇਂ ਸਿਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਸਨਾਤਨਵਾਦ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਅਮਲ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਪੱਛਮੀ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਹੌਲ਼ੀ-ਹੌਲ਼ੀ ਇਸ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰ ਪਸਾਰਨੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।

Panjab, much like its people, is a unique land. Its history is as little understood, or even misunderstood, as its people. Its extraordinarily violent history is enshrouded in an incomparably loving and welcoming culture. Today, Panjab is embroiled in a struggle for its very survival. Understanding this crisis and finding a way out are dependent on our grasp on its history and its collective psyche. This course is a step in that direction.

ਹਥਲਾ ਕੋਰਸ ਕਾਵਿ-ਪੁਸਤਕ ਝਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਦੀਰਘ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕੋਰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਝਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਚੋਣਵੀਆਂ ਕਵਿਤਾਵਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਜਾਣਗੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ, ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ਼-ਨਾਲ਼, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕਵਿਤਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਮੂਦਾਰ ਹੋਏ ਅਨੁਭਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।  ਮਹਾਂਕਵੀ ਹਰਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਹਿਬੂਬ ਦੀ ਝਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਸੱਤ ਕਾਵਿ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੱਤੇ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਦੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਝਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਹੈ। ਝਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਆਪਣੇ-ਆਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਅਮਲ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਲਈ ਬੋਲੀ 'ਤੇ ਮੁਹਾਰਤ, ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਅਨੁਭਵ ਨਾਲ਼ ਬੌਧਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਵਨਾਤਮਕ ਸਾਂਝ, ਸਾਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮਿੱਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਲੋਕਧਾਰਾ ਨਾਲ਼ ਨੇੜਤਾ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ, ਖ਼ਾਸ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਸਾਂਦਲ ਬਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਲਵੇ, ਦੀ ਭੂਗੋਲਿਕ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ, ਸੂਫ਼ੀ ਕਾਵਿ ਤੇ ਕਿੱਸਾ ਕਾਵਿ, ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਪਰੰਪਰਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਹੋਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।  

The Sikhs in the eighteenth-century went through multiple cycles of violence. They were against a force of law that felt religiously obligated in dehumanizing the other. Since the Sikhs were the most distinguishable and the most defiant other, the Mughal establishment imposed a virtual ban on identifying as a Sikh. Despite the brutal violence that often advanced into genocides, the Sikhs managed to keep their integrity and identity intact and continue the struggle to establish their sovereignty.  

Who are the diaspora Sikhs? Do they know the traumas that shaped them? The known traumas have started to connect the diasporic Sikhs to unknown wounds. The Sikh diaspora have been actively exploring its space in the host countries they found themselves in.

Decoding Modernity: Unraveling its Philosophical Foundations and the Path to Liberation

This course explores the conceptual foundations of both religion and culture. Do religions emerge out of culture, or, do they influence and shape cultural conventions? The course will begin with an analysis of the universalism associated with the conceptual formations of both religion and culture. After developing a perspective on the conceptual formations, the course will largely elaborate upon the Sikh experience with both religion and culture before and after the advent of modernity in Punjab.

The emergence of Hindutva as a political force with the rise of the Narendra Modi-led Bhartiya Janata Party to power has legitimised communal and systemic violence in a regressive manner. How is the violence connected to the idea of Hindutva? What are the discursive foundations of this violence?

How do we understand Sikhi in the present age? Is it a syncretic mix of Hinduism and Islam? Is it a movement within Hinduism? Can we call it a religion?
